I will be traveling from Florida to the UK from 8-25 to 9-6 and would like to use my Iphone for calls and text. I would also like to download an app for travel (GPS) while in the car. Your help is appreciated.
LETS TACKLE GPS FIRST:
There is a great application called Waze that works on iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and on Nokia phones. Waze is a social mobile application providing free turn-by-turn navigation based on the live conditions of the road. The more you use it the better it gets. Waze uses your 3G data, so a juicy data plan is recommended, but the turn-by-turn navigation is awesome, and the cost is FREE.
TALK AND TEXT:
First and most important – Make certain your iPhone is unlocked. It must be unlocked if you are to use the device with a sim card other than the original carrier provided sim.
With your unlocked iPhone we suggest a 3 UK sim card. The 3UK sim has a “Simple” rate plan that allows unlimited data, 300 minutes of talk, and 3000 text messages for the cost of a £15 GBP refill. The refill is valid 30 days.
Order the sim online and we will ship it to you. Upon arrival in the UK, you should visit a bookstore, pharmacy, local 3 UK store, or a convenience store to purchase a topup. Get more details and order your 3 UK sim at mrsimcard.com. Micro sims are available for iPhone 4 and iPad.
